Gallery

Our gallery of films and photos offers a rare and nuanced look at the power of disability arts, culture and public pedagogy to show the resilience of artists and people with disabilities. Artists with disabilities from diverse backgrounds and media speak about their own experiences, challenges to their social belonging, accessibility, and the rich cultural imagination learning from artists with disabilities offers educators, educational leaders, students, and the wider public.

NOT BROKEN – SARAH JICKLING (with captions)

The skies have split open and blessed us with the searing insights and lyrical melodies of Sarah Jickling’s experiences as a songstress, mental health advocate and musician in this gem of a film. Before you know it, you too will be asking how schools can make it possible for artists with disabilities to become artists-in-residence, mentors and public pedagogues as change-makers.

LOST AND FOUND – Kristina Shelden (with captions)

Lost and Found moves like freckles of light from a little girl’s ambitions to sing like the Little Mermaid to a young woman beaming her sunshine focus on her post-secondary musical ambitions. One dark evening, a car accident fractures her spinal cord, leaving many questions unanswered for her future. The film is a rare authentic take on disability which is neither tragic nor heroic.  Shelden shares her remarkable story of being confronted with new body, a changed perspective on disability experiences and remarkable embracing community of friends –the undaunted disability community.
